Midget 18U AAA

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ 18U AAA team has announced its coaching staff for the 2016-17 season.

Barry Dreger will serve as head coach, with Chase Souto and Nick Vachon assisting.

“I’m very excited with our staff, both in terms of its experience and enthusiasm,” said Dreger. “Both Chase and Nick are well-respected coaches and their passion for the game will be a tremendous asset for our kids and they continue their development, on and off the ice.”

Dreger, who served as an assistant on the Jr. Kings’ 18U AAA and 16U AAA Major teams last year, played three seasons of Major Junior in the Western Hockey League (WHL) before embarking on an 11-year professional career in the American Hockey League (AHL), International Hockey League (IHL) and ECHL.

A Winnipeg native, Dreger, who joined the Jr. Kings’ staff last season, was also a successful coach in the American Collegiate Hockey Association with Kennesaw State University where he led the team to a national tournament appearance in 2012.

Born in Montreal, Vachon played two years of college hockey at Boston University before skating two seasons with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks.

The son of Vezina-winning goaltender Rogie Vachon, Nick, who’s been affiliated with the Jr. Kings since 2002, enjoyed a five-year professional career playing in the AHL, IHL and ECHL. He also dressed one NHL game with the New York Islanders during the 1996-97 season.
