Three set for Tier I regionals

Three Los Angeles Jr. Kings teams will compete for Pacific District Tier I championships this weekend when they square off against the rest of the region’s top AAA clubs at Sharks Ice-San Jose from March 6-9.

The Jr. Kings’ 18U AAA team, coached by Jack Bowkus, will open its regionals against the San Jose Jr. Sharks on Thursday (March 6) at 4 p.m.

In the 16U AAA division, the Louis Pacella-coached Major squad will commence its regionals on Thursday at noon, also against the Jr. Sharks.

The Jr. Kings’ Bantam Major team, led by Shawn Pitcher, will open regionals on Thursday against Team Seattle (10:15 a.m.).

In the 18U and 14U divisions, the top two teams after the three-game round robin will play in the championship game on Sunday. In the 16U division, semifinal games will be played after the round robin with the championship scheduled for Sunday.

The winners of the Pacific District championships in each division will advance to the USA Hockey national championships, which will run from April 2-6 in Green Bay, Wis.

All three Jr. Kings teams were crowned California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) state champions in their respective divisions last month at The Rinks-Lakewood Ice.

In addition, eight Jr. Kings’ A, BB and B teams teams - Midget 18U A, Bantam B, Pee Wee A3, Squirt A1 and A2, Squirt BB2 and BB3 and Squirt B - will compete in the upcoming Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) playoffs, which will be contested from March 8-9 at various rinks in the area.

The top four teams after each division’s round robin this weekend will advance to the semifinals, which will be played on March 15-16 at The Rinks-Anaheim Ice. The semis winners in each division will advance to finals, which will run from March 22-23 at El Segundo’s Toyota Sports Center.

The champions of each division will compete in the CAHA state championships, which will be showcased from April 11-13 at Sharks-Ice San Jose.
