Thanksgiving Extravaganza Tournament a success

Forty-six teams from Arizona, Northern and Southern California, Texas, Utah and British Columbia competed in this year’s Los Angeles Jr. Kings-hosted Thanksgiving Extravaganza Tournament, which was showcased from Nov. 27-30 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo and The Rinks-Lakewood Ice.

Champions were crowned in seven divisions: Bantam AA (Mission Arizona); Bantam A (Channel Islands Riptide); Pee Wee A (Riptide 1); Squirt A (Jr. Kings 2); Squirt BB (Bay Harbor Red Wings); Squirt B (California Titans); and Mite Track I (Ice Dogs Hockey Club 1).

“We can’t thank all of the participating clubs enough for helping deliver what proved to be a great weekend of hockey to ring in the holiday season,” said tournament director Brian McDonough. “There was so much spirited competition in every division, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all of the players, coaches, team managers and families was second to none.

“We’re also lucky enough to get such great support from both our terrific team of volunteers and the staffs at Toyota Sports Center and The Rinks-Lakewood Ice who help events like this hit on all cylinders.”

Division champions were awarded a banner and trophy, and all players on the championship teams received medals as well hats, compliments of Aufeis Hockey.

Players on the runner-up teams in each division also received medals.

The Thanksgiving Extravaganza is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ remaining two events of the 2014-15 season: the Presidents’ Day Challenge (Feb. 13-16, 2015) and Carmen Starr Memorial Day Invitational (May 22-25, 2015).
