Squirt B2 team celebrates SCAHA title, off to states

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Squirt B2 team celebrated the championship in its division at this year's Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) Playoffs after its 5-1 triumph over the California Wave in the title game, which was contested yesterday (March 25) at El Segundo’s Toyota Sports Center.

Five different players lit the lamp for the Jr. Kings on their way to victory - forwards Anthony Trutanich, Keirstyn Camiolo (game-winner), William Schnorr, Jack Gargiulo and Lucas Delay - and goaltender Matthew Serkin turned back 19 shots between the pipes.

“I’m so proud of our entire group and so honored to win (the championship) and our rink with so many other Jr. Kings (players, families and supporters) rooting us on,” said Jr. Kings head coach Jeff Bain, who’s assisted behind the bench by Danny Patterson and Dan DeFranco. “We couldn't have done it without them.

“And it was so encouraging to see five different players score goals, proving that the best team always wins.”

Other members of the squad include: forwards Miles Baird, Benjamin DeFranco and Tanner Herschman; defensemen Gideon Evans, Pearse Huey, Ethan Klapper and Bailey Milken; and goaltender Jake Miller.

Kara Camiolo is the team’s manager.

Both the Jr. Kings and Wave will advance to the California Amateur Hockey Association A/B State Championships, which will be showcased from March 31-April 2 at Sharks Ice-San Jose.

“Every player played their hearts out and the next step is winning the state title,” Bain added. “Every time we get together at the rink we have so much fun, and that’s been so vital to our success.”
