Six champs crowned at Labor Day Hockey Fest

An unprecedented 28 teams from Arizona, Northern and Southern California and Nevada competed in this year’s Los Angeles Jr. Kings-hosted Labor Day Weekend Hockey Fest Tournament, which was showcased from Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, Calif.

Champions were crowned in six divisions: Bantam AA (Jr. Kings 1); Pee Wee A (Jr. Kings 3); Squirt A (Jr. Kings 1); Squirt BB (Ice Dogs Hockey Club 1); Squirt B (Pasadena Maple Leafs); and Mite Cross Ice (Ice Dogs Hockey Club 1).

“We can’t thank all of the participating clubs enough for helping deliver what proved to be an exciting weekend of hockey to kick off the new season,” tournament director Brian McDonough said of the third annual event. “There was so much great competition in every division, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all of the players, coaches, team managers and families was second to none.”

Division champions were awarded a banner and trophy, and all players on the championship teams received medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division also received medals.

The Labor Day Weekend Hockey Fest Tournament is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ remaining three events of the 2014-15 season: the Thanksgiving Extravaganza (Nov. 27-30), Presidents’ Day Challenge (Feb. 13-16, 2015) and Carmen Starr Memorial Day Invitational (May 22-25, 2015).
