Robotic goalie earns 3rd place in Herdon Science Competition

Julian Rachman (Bantam B) and Ted Johnson (In-House league) were recently selected to represent Torrance and the Bert Lynn Middle School in the Herdon Science Competition. The competition, organized by the Aerospace Corporation, is meant to get kids excited about, and involved in, engineering and mathematics in science.

In this year’s competition, Julian and Ted set out to build a robotic ice hockey goalie that tracks the puck. Julian handled the mechanics of the robot while Ted handled the computer programming side of things. What they accomplished is remarkable, earning 3rd place in the competition!

The video below showcases three teams from the competition and their love of science, technology and mathematics.
