Pee Wee Majors impress at SuperSeries event in Canada

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee Major 2003 team forged a perfect 5-0 record on its way to the championship at this year’s Mississauga Rebels Border Battle SuperSeries 03 event, which was contested last weekend just outside of Toronto.

The only U.S. team to go undefeated at the showcase, the Jr. Kings knocked off five of the top-ranked 03 teams in Ontario, including the No. 1-ranked Toronto Marlies.

“The kids played great,” said Jr. Kings head coach Jeff Turcotte. “For us to go up against that caliber of competition and be successful and walk out undefeated is a huge task.

“It’s good to see how the kids stepped up against the highest-quality opponents."

The Jr. Kings, who outscored their opponents 30-15 at the event, opened the showcase with a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Titans (ranked No. 8) before besting the Marlies, 3-2. They then went on to defeat the Kitchener Jr. Rangers (No. 5), 8-3, Mississauga Rebels (No. 14), 7-1, and Burlington Eagles (No. 9), 7-5.

“It’s probably one of the smartest hockey IQ teams I’ve ever coached, and they work hard, they’re very smart and they’re talented,” Turcotte said of the Jr. Kings’ 03s.

“There’s only certain groups that come around every few years that have all the pieces in the right place - good parents, good kids - and this is one of them.”
