Pee Wee AAA Minors celebrate Compuware Honeybaked title

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee AAA Minor team got its season off to a stellar start, taking home the top prize in its division at this year’s Compuware Honeybaked AAA Invitational, which was contested last weekend (Sept. 15-17) in suburban Detroit.

The Jr. Kings forged a near-flawless 5-0-1 record at the showcase, including a 5-0 triumph over Compuware in the championship game.

“What a great all-around effort from our entire group,” said Jr. Kings head coach Jeremy Daughaday, who’s club outscored its opponents 36-16 over the weekend. “These boys worked hard all weekend and played for each other, and that really fueled our success and will continue to fuel it as we get deeper into the season.”

L.A. opened the tourney on Friday with a 6-1 victory over Michigan’s Oakland Jr. Grizzlies, followed by a 6-2 win over Victory Honda (Michigan).

The next day, the Jr. Kings knotted Ohio’s Sylvania North Stars, 6-6, before taking down the Cleveland Barons in the quarterfinals, 5-4.

On Sunday in the semifinals, the club took down the Chicago Fury, 8-3, on its way to its title matchup with Compuware.

“From the kids to the families, this is such a great group to work with, on and off the ice,” said Daughaday, who’s assisted behind the bench by Maik Tatavosian and Sean Pitcher. “We’ll obviously continue to work and learn to grow and compete even more as a team, but this was a well-deserved accomplishment for our entire club."

Team members include forwards Quentin Bourne, David Ehrhard, Patrick Fortune, Colin Frank, Sean Hawe, Ty Izadi, Nicholas Mardani, Tai Melston, Aidan Park and Ethan Weber; defensemen Tyler Chiovetti, Kenny McIlwain, Drake Murray, Connolly Stice and Hunter Toms; and goaltenders Justin Bayers and Ryan Winkelmann.

Carlie Chiovetti and Rob Winkelmann are the team’s managers.

“It’s a tremendous compliment when opposing teams and families tell you we have such a classy group, and I couldn’t agree more,” Daughaday added.
