L.A. Jr. Kings Bantam AAA2 lend a helping hand

On Dec 21st, the LA Jr. Kings Bantam AAA2 team, coached by Jeff Turcotte and Shawn Pitcher, had the great opportunity to volunteer their time and muscles at a local food bank just in time for the holiday season. They worked at the Pinecrest Christian Church in Lakewood, which is just a few miles from one of the rinks that the boys both play and train at. The boys helped with set up by unloading freezers and moving the dry goods to the distribution location. Then, some of the boys sorted the pre-packed food for distribution while others worked on bagging potatoes and other loose food items.

When the doors opened at the food bank at 11 a.m., they only had 1hour (per state regulations) to distribute the food supplies to the families that had been in line. Many people and their families had been in line for several hours waiting for the doors to open. The boys also acted as personal shoppers for the elderly by helping them gather and carry their food items. When the door closed at noon, all 144 families were able to be served

Karen Simpson, active member of the church, commented "this was one of our largest crowds to date and without these fine young men we wouldn't have had enough staff to serve as many families as we did. It would have been a shame and disappointing if we would have had to close our doors at noon with people still in line."

Afterwards the boys help with clean up and then headed to TSC for practice.

Players that attended:
Nick Castro, Ryan Castro, Andrew DeCarlo, Logan Harris, Noah Kim, Jin Lee, Gabel Longshore, Brett MacNicoll, Nick Rittenhouse, Brendan Root, Henri Schreifels, Tanner Turcotte & Jackson Wozniak
