Jr. Kings wrap up USA Hockey National Championships

 

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings concluded this year’s USA Hockey Tier I National Championships, which commenced on Thursday, with a 1-3-1-1 record.

Guided by head coach Shawn Pitcher, the Jr. Kings’ Bantam Major squad wrapped up its national tournament, which was played at Subway Sports Centre in Anchorage, Alaska, with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Buffalo Jr. Sabres on Saturday to finish the event with a 0-1-1-1 record (3 points).

Forward Drew Vieten notched the Jr. Kings' lone goal in regulation for L.A., with forward Hunter Campbell assisting.

The Jr. Kings’ 16U AAA Major team, led by head coach Jack Bowkus, closed its national tourney, which was showcased at Sharks Ice-San Jose, with a 1-2 mark (3 points) after a 5-1 triumph over Team North Dakota.

Defenseman Jacob Modry, and RPI recruit, tallied a goal and an assist in the victory, with forwards Ryley Nahra, Jackson Wozniak and Jordan Bonner and defenseman Lucas Yovetich notching the other L.A. markers.

Forwards Cole Guttman, Christain Acosta, Murphy Stratton and Hirotaka Cox, along with defensemen Noah Lee and Kaelan Taylor, picked up assists in the win.

Between the pipes, goaltender Jagger Denys turned back 17 shots; Mattias Sholl steered aside one in relief.

Both Jr. Kings clubs celebrated Pacific District championships earlier this month at El Segundo’s Toyota Sports Center to punch their tickets to nationals.
