Jr. Kings Win Big at CAHA Tier 1 State Championships

El Segundo, CA (February 10, 2013) After a weekend of CAHA playoff games, four Los Angeles Jr. Kings Tier 1 teams advance to the Pacific District  tournament three of whom as CAHA State Champions.

The Jr. Kings Peewee AAA team, coached by Jeff Turcotte, made their run in the double elimination format starting on Friday, February 8th by defeating the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 3-2 and the Anaheim Wildcats 2-1 (SO).  The team advanced to the Championship game vs. the Jr. Ducks which ended with the Jr. Kings taking the gold in a 2-1 OT finish.

The CAHA Peewee AAA division was remarkable. Five of the six games were one goal wins, including two shootouts and an overtime championship finish. The USA Hockey Peewee division no longer advances to the National tournament but Quebec is right around the corner and we wish our Jr. Kings Peewee AAA team all the best in their quest for the gold in Quebec City later this month. Congratulations to all!

The Jr. Kings Bantam AAA team, coached by Igor Nikulin, had a five game series defeating the Jr. Kings Bantam Minor team twice by large scores, downing the Wave by a score of 5-2, and losing to the Jr. Ducks 2-1 in a shootout. This set the stage for a championship rematch game between the Jr. Ducks and the Jr. Kings, which ended in a 2-1 win for the Kings and forced a final game seven against the Jr. Ducks yet again. In the championship game, the Jr. Ducks prevailed 4-2 and emerged as the CAHA champions but the Jr. Kings Bantams, as the CAHA 2 team, will still advance to the Pacific District tournament.

For the second consecutive year, the Jr. Kings U16AAA team, coached by Louis Pacella and Rick Kelly, made their CAHA championship run by defeating the Titans in game 1 by a score of 6-2.  Later that day the Jr. Ducks pulled off a 4-3 OT upset which forced the Jr. Kings 16s to meet up with the Titans once again on Saturday night. By the ending buzzer, the Jr. Kings defeated the Titans again 4-3 and were set up to play the Jr. Ducks in the Championship game on Sunday. In that final game, both teams battled hard and traded scoring opportunities. The score was 0-0 at the beginning of the 3rd period until the Jr. Kings came on with two quick goals;then added a third. The Jr. Ducks made it exciting after coming back with a power play goal and a second goal. It was 3-2 on the scoreboard the waning moments of the game as theclock wound down to 0 and the Jr. Kings took the CAHA Title.

The Jr. Kings 18AAA team, coached by Jack Bowkus, demonstrated efficiency in needing only three games to take home the CAHA championship title. They defeated the San Jose Jr. Sharks 4-2 and repeated beating the Anaheim Jr. Ducks later that day by the same score. This set the stage for a rematch with the Jr. Sharks and with momentum building, the Jr. Kings 18s notched a shutout, defeating the Sharks 6-0 in the Gold medal game. This marks the fourth consecutive state championship for coach Jack Bowkus and the Jr. Kings 18s.

All three of our eligible major teams have advanced to the Pacific District Regional Championships to compete for their respective berths at the USA Hockey National Championships.
