Jr. Kings still undefeated at regionals

The Los Angeles Kings’ 18U AAA, 16U AAA Major and 14U AAA Major teams concluded the round-robin portion of the Pacific District regional tournament, which is being contested this weekend at Sharks Ice-San Jose, with a perfect 9-0 record.

The 18U team, coached by Jack Bowkus, downed the Ontario Avalanche, 3-1, on Saturday to finish 3-0 in the round robin and will face off against the Alaska Jr. Aces on Sunday (noon) for the division championship.

The Shawn Pitcher-led 14U team took down the host San Jose Jr. Sharks, 7-3 in its final round-robin game, and will play the Jr. Sharks again in the its division’s finale on Sunday (9:30 a.m.).

In the 16U division, the Jr. Kings, coached by Louis Pacella, wrapped up the round robin with a 5-1 triumph over the California Titans on Saturday, and then bested the Jr. Sharks, 7-2, in the division semifinals to advance to the championship game on Sunday against the Jr. Aces (10:30 a.m.).

The winners of the Pacific District championships in each division will advance to the USA Hockey national championships, which will run from April 2-6 in Green Bay, Wis.

All three Jr. Kings teams were crowned California Amateur Hockey Association state champions in their respective divisions last month at The Rinks-Lakewood Ice.
