Four teams set for USA Hockey National Championships

Four Los Angeles Jr. Kings teams will continue their quests for a national title this week when they compete with the rest of the nation’s top teams in their respective divisions at this year’s USA Hockey National Championships, which will run from April 2-6.

Three of the program’s Tier I teams - Midget 18U AAA, 16U AAA Major and Bantam Major - will vie for a title in Green Bay, Wis., while the Bantam AA1 team will play in Hackensack, N.J.

The Midget 18U AAA team, coached by Jack Bowkus, will open round-robin play against Michigan’s Victory Honda on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PST, followed by games against the Central Connecticut Capitals (Thursday at 2 p.m.) and Michigan-based Belle Tire (Friday at 10 a.m.).

The Jr. Kings’ 16U AAA Major squad, led by Louis Pacella, will begin round-robin play against the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets on Wednesday at noon, followed by matchups against Omaha AAA (Thursday at 8 a.m.) and St. Louis Blues AAA (Friday at 6 p.m.).

The Shawn Pitcher-coached Bantam Major team will open its round robin against Michigan’s Oakland Jr. Grizzlies on Wednesday at 10 a.m., followed by games against the Syracuse Nationals (Thursday at 6 p.m.) and Carolina Jr. Hurricanes (Friday at 2 p.m.).

The Bantam AA1 club, coached by Brandon Convery, will face off against Hockey Club of Dallas on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.; East Haven (Thursday at 7 a.m.); and the Boston Jr. Eagles (Friday at 9:30 a.m.) in its round robin.

All three Jr. Kings Tier I teams won both California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) state and Pacific District regional championships to punch their tickets to nationals, while the Bantam AA1 team also won the CAHA state championship in its division to earn its berth.
