Eight grads to compete in NCAA tournament

Eight former Los Angeles Jr. Kings will compete in this year’s NCAA Division I national tournament, which begins this weekend with regionals at various locations around the country.

Among them is Boston College junior goaltender Thatcher Demko. The San Diego native and Vancouver Canucks draft pick is a Hobey Baker Award finalist for the No. 5-ranked Eagles.

St. Cloud State University freshmen forwards Robby Jackson (Alameda) and Patrick Newell (Thousand Oaks) will represent the No. 2-ranked Huskies, while Alex-Miner Barron (Glendora), a senior defenseman for No. 1-ranked Quinnipiac University, and Providence College freshman forward Garrett Gamez (Chino Hills) will also participate.

Jr. Kings graduates Gabe Levin (Marina del Rey), a senior forward at the University of Denver, University of Massachusetts-Lowell senior forward Robert Francis (San Diego) and Northeastern University sophomore forward Nolan Stevens are also representing their schools in the NCAAs.

The winners of their respective NCAA regionals this weekend will advance to the Frozen Four in Tampa, where the semifinals will be played on April 7 and the championship game on April 9.
