Bantam A team wins silver at Condorstown Winterfest

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Bantam A team finished runner-up in its division at this year’s Condorstown Winterfest, which is being showcased in Bakersfield.

The Jr. Kings finished with a 1-3-1 record at the outdoor event, falling to the California Heat in Wednesday’s (Dec. 27) championship game, 4-2.

“It was a great experience for our entire group,” said Jr. Kings head coach Tony Rudy. “The kids learned a lot and made significant progress throughout the weekend, and playing in an outdoor environment only added to the excitement.”

The Jr. Kings opened the round-robin portion of the tournament on Monday with a 6-3 triumph over the Bakersfield Jr. Condors before coming up short against the Heat, 4-2. The next day, L.A. tied the Heat, 2-2, before dropping a 6-0 decision to Bakersfield.

Forwards Jerry Cano and Nathan Howard led the Jr. Kings’ offensive charge with four points apiece (each tallied two goals and two assists), and goaltenders Justin Bender and Owen Greene stood tall between the pipes.

“Both Justin and Owen played well for us,” Jr. Kings assistant coach Berkeley Hoagland said. “Each stepped up at different times.”
