Bantam AA1s ready for states

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Bantam AA1 team will play for a California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) boys Tier II state championship this weekend (March 14-16) at Ice Station Valencia.

The club, coached by Brandon Convery, will open the tournament against OC Hockey Club 1 on Friday (8:40 a.m.).

“We’re very excited for the challenge this weekend,” said Convery. “This group of kids has not only grown as a team, but as individuals.

“They understand what’s expected to succeed, and how they need to be at the top of their own game to help the team.”

The winner of the Bantam AA division, which also includes Anaheim Jr. Ducks 1 and the California Wave, will advance to the USA Hockey Tier II 14U National Championships, which will be contested from April 2-6 in Hackensack, N.J.

“It’s exciting times for the players and families,” Convery added. “They deserve this opportunity.”

The Jr. Kings qualified for states after finishing with a 2-0 record at playdowns last month with wins over San Jose Jr. Sharks 1 (7-2) and OC Hockey Club 1 (4-0) at Iceoplex-Simi Valley.

The top four teams after playdowns qualified for the state tournament, which will use a double-elimination format.
