16U, Bantam Major clubs ready for USA Hockey National Championships

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ 16U AAA Major and Bantam Major clubs will continue their quests for national titles this week when they compete against the rest of the country’s top teams in their respective divisions at this year’s USA Hockey National Championships, which will run from March 31-April 4.

The 16U Major squad, led by head coach Jack Bowkus, will open its tournament, which will be showcased at Sharks Ice-San Jose, on Thursday against Detroit Honeybaked (4 p.m. faceoff), followed by a matchup against the Colorado Thunderbirds the next day (10 a.m.). It’ll close pool play against Team North Dakota on Saturday (4 p.m.).

Under the direction of head coach Shawn Pitcher, the Bantams will begin their national tournament, which will be played at Subway Sports Centre in Anchorage, Alaska, with a game against the New Jersey Colonials on Thursday (2:40 p.m. PST), followed by a meeting against the Boston Jr. Eagles the next day (7 p.m.). L.A. will wrap up pool play on Saturday with a game against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres (3 p.m.).

Both clubs celebrated Pacific District championships earlier this month at El Segundo’s Toyota Sports Center to punch their tickets to nationals.
